Oct. 8th, 2023 05:34 pm- Jury duty on Monday, and it went well! Took the train to the Daily Center. Got to the waiting area. They called my group number around 10:30. By noon, I was dismissed! Here's a bit more detail: The process for picking jurors was a bit different than what I'd seen before. Instead of interviewing us "live" in front of everyone else, we filled out questionnaires. The case had to do with construction. The judge asked if there was anyone there who couldn't be objective. About 5-6 raised their hands, and when questioned, they all said that either they worked in construction, or their dad did, etc. Then we were all sent out of the courtroom and we waited for like a half hour. Then they bring us all in. Then they read 12 names, my name is NOT one of them, and then they say that is the jury. All of the 5-6 who'd said they couldn't be objective were put ON the jury! Lesson learned: think long and hard before telling the judge you can't be objective. Likely, both sides *wanted* people with construction expertise. In any case, I was happy to be dismissed.
- Demonstration with Mercy for Animals yesterday and it went well
- Wednesday went to a breakfast with my coworkers, for this nonprofit that our company is involved with. I was once again happy that I took the train and bus to a slightly different area of the city and successfully got to the place!
- Talked to an old (fandom) friend Amy this week, and it was good to catch up
- New season of Our Flag Means Death!
- I got an idea of what to write for my fandom friend Mia's Christmas gift
- Just taking a moment to flashback at how lucky I've been with my fandom travels. Pasadena in November of last year, and Vancouver in February of this year. Both were awesome. I am so glad and so lucky I got to go and had a blast. (Even though I got COVID in Pasadena, lol)
And one sad thing. A guy I worked with, Andre', he died unexpectedly last weekend. He was 49. Didn't know him well as he lived in North Carolina, but we saw each other in person 3 times at various events. Very sad.
