51 list and gratitude
Mar. 16th, 2024 06:00 amIn case you missed it and are interested, I am listing 51 ways I am pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I'll be trying to get to 51 by March 2025. It may or may not happen.
Left off on #5 and here it is. In April, I'll be hosting 3 fandom friends from Europe. Never met any of them before and never hosted 3 people at the same time before. And it's less than a month away
Gratitude list:
1. Catching up at work after being out has been fine
2. Still wanting to appreciate small things like the beautiful daffodils that are up (though come on....we know the planet is way warmer than it should be now), and the Mandopop music on Youtube that I listen to almost every day, and the show Ghosts and its new episodes.
3. I did go to the protest I mentioned a few posts ago, and am glad I did!
Fandom stuff:
1. My multi-chapter fic is at 60,000 words and still going strong. My beta tester is amazing. We now use Googledocs and she makes comments right on the doc, which I love
2. My friend Guggi (one of the Europeans who is coming next month) said she'd do a watch party of Shadowhunters with me. We spent the last few weeks doing so, and she really liked it. Also, Doris said she'll rewatch it with me now. (YES!)
3. There's a big Shadowhunters convention in Germany next month. I can't go. It's too close to my London trip and my friends' visit, 2 trips to Europe in 1 year is Not A Thing, and there's no direct flight to Dusseldorf from where I live. But here's what's cool. Of the Malec ship, originally only Alec's actor was going. They just announced yesterday that Magnus' actor is now going too! The fandom is Losing Its Shit. :) Even better, Magnus' actor's career is going really really well (he's on Grey's Anatomy!) and he doesn't need to go. So he must want to
4. Small point but Sachin liked Jarod's latest post. Been wishing I'd see more of that
5. And I'll end with an...interesting one. Over the years, I've heard people on Reddit talk of a kudos bot. No one knows how it started or the full scoop but apparently some folks get 20 or 40 or 60 guest kudos on a fic within 24 hours, but their hit counter barely goes up, and thus people think there's some bot or web trawler (sp?) out there. I had never before been hit with it. It happened to me on the fic I mention above. It went from 95 to 175 kudos in a day and I'd guess most of them were bots. When writers talk about it on Reddit, they say that they hate the fake kudos. Real talk? I'm not sorry about it. I'd never choose for it to happen to me and I'd never make it happen even if I had the power to. But I'm not upset about it. I guess I feel my fic deserves 175 kudos. (I'm such a bad girl, I know)
