Have you ever removed wallpaper?

If you haven't, I strongly advise you to get out of doing so any way you can.

Almost makes me wish I were at work this week...

When you said removing wallpaper, I thought you meant changing your computer background and I was really confused. *facepalm*

I'm definitely a child of the Information Age.

I thought that is what paint was for...hmmm...

Unfortunately painting over wallpaper never goes too well. So it's gotta come off.

I love wallpaper, but I've heard it's really hard to remove. Apparently that's true.

There really are no words for it. The room is just a small bathroom and it's clear to me that I might not finish this week despite being off all week. It's killer on the hands too.

LOL! Actually? Yes, I have. Many times. It's not so bad if the wall was prepped before hand. Sounds like yours wasn't though. :( Good luck!

Wait, wait, wait - define 'prepped' please?

I do take a damp rag and rub it over the section I'm trying to remove the stuff from first. Is there something else I can do?

My hands are gonna throb tomorrow, and I'm not even 40% done.

:) I meant prepped as in before the wallpaper went up.

However, I'd be using more than a 'damp' rag. I usually soak a large sponge in hot-to-warm water then get the paper really wet. Let it soak in for a bit, but before it's dry, scrape it off with a putty knife. (If the paper has a heavy vinyl coat as its top layer, you'll have to score it so the water can get to the paper layer underneath.) I also don't bother with any of the pre-made solutions that are supposed to help. They've never worked for me, so I finally gave up even trying.

*hugs* Hope tomorrow goes better!

Thank you. I will try hot water and will leave it on more.

Miraculously, my hands don't hurt this morning. I thought they would.

Yay!

I see that [livejournal.com profile] nytshd3 sent you a link about steaming. Steaming does work, if you have plaster walls, but it's killer on the shoulders and arms. Did it once in my teens, and never again. :)

I would suggest leaving a young child with tactile fascination alone in that room for awhile. Then all the paper will be finito.

Well, my nephews are coming over today...but unless they apply water to the wall beforehand, very little comes off without significant effort.

Fun story: my sister was known to strip entire walls of dry paper by herself as a toddler. It can happen.
