I've been thinking about doing one of those tests where they test your genealogy, find out about your ancestry. Has anyone done this? I need to research and figure out where to start.
I looked into it at one point because I'm curious to see just how much indigenous heritage I have (since I have a few traits that typically only show up in Native Americans and Asians). National Geographic has the cheapest one and the one that sounds best. It's part of their studies.
I looked into it at one point, but the other companies will put your DNA info into a database and allow others with the same name/etc. to contact you. Um, no thanks. National Geographic at least keeps it confidential.
Thanks for the info. This is all very interesting. The only thing that worries me is that the website says, "You will not receive a percentage breakdown of your genetic background by ethnicity, race, or geographic origin. Nor will you receive confirmation of an association with a particular tribe or ethnic group."
I was kinda hoping to receive that stuff. So I need to poke around and see if there are places that can do that. On the other hand, it does say that I could learn about my ancestors' migration path, so that might be interesting.
Yeah...never heard that song. Until now. I just looked it up. Pretty groovy. But most people agree that civilization, if not life, began in the Fertile Crescent, which is Mesopotamia. So, technically, it is not a lie to say that you are Mesopotamian...
EDIT: Alas...that silly song made me want to listen to Iggy Pop...and now I want to dance when I really should be doing school work...
