Gratitude stuff again
Jun. 18th, 2022 01:24 pm- Such wonderful weather today. It's like 64. I did a shift at the Dems table at the farmer's market, and then dropped off some books at the library for their book sale. (Normally I'd just donate books to Little Free Libraries, but these 3 are too big to fit in most of them, so I've been waiting for somewhere else to take them). Sadly, after today it's back to 90+ degrees for the next 7 days. (Or more). How I wish I could live somewhere where it's like 59-73 degrees year-round!
- Went into the office on Thursday for our PRIDE reception. I had fun that morning; I showed Doris 4 dresses and asked her to pick which one I should wear. I just don't wear dresses often enough. It was really hot that day too, but I survived; the public transport's air conditioning behaved that day. Glad to work somewhere where I can wear a dress and sandals to the office, and indeed many other folks were similarly attired. The reception itself was nice enough.
- And given last week's heatwave, I made 2 hearty salad dishes that I was very proud of. One was mostly a grain dish, one had steamed califlower and a peanuty sauce. Both meant to be eaten cold or room temp. (And given that another heatwave is coming, looks like I'll make 'em again this week)
- I baked a corn pie for the first time yesterday. (It was just not-hot enough outside that I didn't mind putting the oven on). Saw the recipe in a cookbook and was intrigued, but as the writer said, "You eat a pumpkin pie, so how is this different?" I enjoyed the pie a lot, though definitely feel that the whipped cream made it way better. (There's also a grape pie recipe in there. "You eat a strawberry pie or a cherry pie, so why not a grape pie??")
- There's an animal sanctuary that does an online auction, and the 2 items I won arrived today! One is a cookbook and it looks great. The other is a beauty box filled with little beauty items. Love it!!
- Fan girl updates. My bad OFMD fic is up to 19 subscribers and 23 kudos. Sachin and I messaged a bit on Cameo and he did say that he's filming something in addition to the short film he's making. He said it's great to be busy with acting jobs. He said the show is called Creepshow, and that this is just between us. :) He warned that it's very creepy and said he looks forward to what I think of it. (Okay, creepy is not usually my genre, but you know I am of the mindset that "a paid acting gig is a paid acting gig, another credit for your IMDB page is another credit for your IMDB page"). Sachin also asked me how I'm doing and what I was up to, and responded that it was awesome when I told him I've been volunteering with Postcards to Swing States.

Date: 2022-06-21 01:38 am (UTC)Your dress was so lovely!
And yay for nice dishes that you can eat without heating! That's a need for sure with all of these 90+ degree days.
Nice auction wins! For the last couple years I've donated to the worldbuilders fundraiser, and you get entered to potentially win prizes. I only won once (a book by an author I've never heard of) but it's fun and for a good cause.
Are you going to make the grape pie?
Yay for more gigs for Sachin! I've been really terrible about reading but I decided to give Jenna Fischer's acting book a read and she would definitely agree that a paid acting gig is a paid acting gig and another credit for your IMDB page is another credit for your IMDB page :)
P.S.

Date: 2022-06-21 01:45 pm (UTC)Worldbuilders sounds cool; I should check it out.
I will make the grape pie someday. When I can turn the oven on again. :)
Glad you read Fisher's book! I found it totally fascinating.

Date: 2022-06-25 08:27 pm (UTC)I never wanted to be an actor myself but I love that it's such a good guide about like... yeah, you might work your ass off for YEARS and still be waiting for a break, but also actual helpful suggestions and admitting to doing stuff that wasn't helpful (like sitting at your kitchen table for 6 months just looking at the trades or the time she thought she'd be clever and jump the line when she wasn't called in and the casting director blackballed her for life). Like, being straightforward and saying yes, you're going to need a day job, no, you're not just going to show up and get cast in a great role right away. I got it because I listen to the office ladies podcast, and they wrote a book, and I was going to read it but it just came out so I had to go on the waiting list for it, and overdrive suggested that one so I went for it!
