- I am impressed with my ability to walk around the city I live in. A bit of context. The city has a total area 4.7 square miles according to Wikipedia (it seems a lot bigger to me, but whatever). Our house is on the Northeast end of the city. If I want to get to the center of the city where the shops are, I can either drive or take a bus and a train. (Or I can walk to the train station; it takes me 17 minutes to get to the train on foot). If I walk the entire way from my home to the city center, it takes 45-60 minutes depending on exactly where in the city center I go. Last weekend when I visited the new coffeeshop, I took the bus and train to get there and just walked home like it was nothing. I recognize that plenty of people do 45-60 minutes on the treadmill like it's nothing, but I am still happy that I can just walk home from the city center if I need or want to.
- Or maybe I am just going through an interested-in-transit phase. Today I went into the office because there was an early morning meeting. I asked Doris to drive me to the train station since I didn't want to do the bus in the dark. It was kinda fun to share that (very short) drive with her. For me, when I don't have to go into the office more than once a week, I find I like it. (Also, my hair looked good again. Yes! Nearly half a century old and during the past few years I've finally nailed how to style my hair.)
- Also, I got my 2nd dose of the shingles vax on Monday. Doris had my car, so I used public transport to get to where I needed to go, and again it was nice. And I am so glad that a singles vax exists, because I sure don't want to get shingles.
- Doris came home from work early on Friday and Monday which meant more DOWNTON ABBEY. God, I am loving that show! (Anyone reading this, please no spoilers. We're still just on S2)
- Another Doris shout-out. I am SO lucky that she's a good handywoman. She replaced the screen door. I wouldn't know how to do it.
- Still been sleeping like a baby
- Also, grateful for my fandom friend Mia. We had this hilarious thing, someone posted a bunch of gifs from The 100, various images of the characters hugging. There was one gif of Jackson but I wasn't sure where it was from. I get such a kick out of the fact that Mia and I are able to bounce it around like this ("is it from S2 when he's reunited with Abby?" "But that doesn't look like Abby's hair." "Hey I remember something in S6 when he hugs Echo") and try to figure it out. Seriously no one else in that fandom cares about Jackson as much. So I am glad for Mia
- So here's the not-good stuff. My company announced they are "restructuring". They said final decisions will be announced the week of April 2. I updated my resume. I had a regularly-scheduled call with my financial planner today, we went over all the numbers, and I am in good shape. He also did confirm that he's sure they will offer outplacement; he says every large company does. And last time the company restructured, I believe that being on a small team of 4 people allowed us to fly under the radar, and we may be able to do that again this time. But still, of course, the whole thing sucks. The one bright spot is that I did go ahead and apply for that job at Mercy For Animals, after confirming that they are still accepting applications for it. It's a longshot, but we will see.
