Work-week recap
Jun. 30th, 2023 03:14 pmThis past work-week has been a lot, and I think it's worth recapping.
Monday
Presented to the PRIDE group of franchisees. Started out so well. Some of them I'd worked with 15 years ago when they were staff. (Jason! Martha and Ursula! Michaeline!) Lots of hugs. But when I got into the presentation/discussion, they had Many Things to say about the program and almost none of it was good. I did have a nice lunch afterwards with Andre who works for our partner/vendor and who co-presented with me. We debriefed.
Tuesday
I emceed an event at a restaurant. My boss attended. She and many others told me at the end that I did great, which was awesome! But I barely avoided a very embarrassing name mixup. And I had been trying so hard to ensure I knew in advance who was who!
Wednesday
On Tuesday evening, my boss calls and asks if I want to go an event where the President is speaking. "The President...of the United States?" Yes. Apparently our Govt Relations team scored some tickets. They told me they reached out to their WH contact to try to get my name on the list. (I responded, "I'm sure this is the #1 priority of the WH") Waited, and nudged Wednesday AM but alas, it was not to be.
Thursday
The larger department that my team is on....there be some chaos. They've been without a VP since March, and the former VP's boss is pretty hands-off and no one knows their priorities. Oh and my boss is getting ready to go on sabbatical. Several team members came in for a planning meeting, and my boss invited me to basically just listen and learn. So yeah, definitely some chaos and I didn't understand much of what was said at the meeting. :) But I was glad she invited me. It helped a little. And also - face time.
So - a bit of a hectic week and lots of learning but I feel that I did very well at being flexible.
Now's as good a time as any to list some gratitude:
- Four day weekend! Started 3 hours ago
- Used Spot Hero for the first time during hectic workweek and it was good
- Last weekend, Doris cooked All The Things. Chilaquiles. Chickpea salad. Tofu and bean dish. Cauliflower. Watermelon fresca. Ooooh and she's off this weekend too!
- I don't know anything about music. But someone made a Shadow and Bone edit to a song by MARINA and I am going through MARINA's stuff and I am loving it
- Back issues of Poetry arrived
- Went to the waterpark a week ago. And will likely hit it again this weekend. Also - bought 2 new swimsuits! It was time. My old one was a hair too small, and too low cut at the bustline. Which resulted in me pulling it up, thus nearly giving me a wedgie. ("This is a lot of T&A to show for a 49 year old who is not hot" - me) I don't know how old the old one was but I remember wearing it in 2015 when I visited Pam in Erie, and it wasn't new then, so I think we can say it's had a good long life.
- Last year Sachin filmed a short movie. Often when your fav actor does that, you never get to see it; lots of shorts don't get much of a release. But because the film and Sachin were both nominated for some award from it, I got to stream it off the Malibu Film Festival. It was great! Then I told him I'd seen it. He asked three times in the Cameo how I managed to see it. (LOL - he really wanted to know). Also, something else he filmed is coming out in about 2 weeks
- Still in love with Shadow and Bone and especially Wesper, and still writing the house down

Date: 2023-07-01 11:23 pm (UTC)I know it's rough when you almost make a big mixup during a presentation, but at least you got it right in the end (so no one but you knows it was almost a faux pas!). Not surprised you rocked it as emcee, you're great at that!
Too bad about the president event, also I had to laugh at the 'I"m sure this is the #1 priority of the WH' comment.
It's always tough when there's chaos, at least it's on the larger team and not so much on your direct team?
I am AMAZED you had a swimsuit that lasted from prior to 2015 to now! I wore one recently that I hadn't worn since pre-pandemic, and by one swim session, it was toast. Hope the new ones are great! I've moved to doing a swim top/tankini and swim bottoms (usually shorts-style) - more comfortable, much easier to get off when it's wet, and I don't have to take my extra long torso into consideration.
I'm sure Sachin would like to broadcast out to everyone how to access his short film! Ha! What's the next thing being released?

Date: 2023-07-02 02:42 pm (UTC)That is amazing that that swimsuit lasted as long as it did. Although I think there were several years where it was only worn once or twice. But still. Tina says the same thing that she needs a long-torso suit...these stupid designers think that women are all tiny waists and long legs and no torso. Makes me so angry!!
Sachin's in a movie called "Ms Matched". It's coming out July 16 and the socials say it's on "Entertainment". Idk if that's a streaming service or an app or what, but I just hope it can be seen outside of Canada. (Another actor from T100 was in something that won't let you get the app or stream it unless you're in....Canada).
